Subscribe Page Edition

To edit or create a subscribe page, you must click on one of the links in the Configuring Subscribe Pages page. Despite its apparent complexity, editing or creating a subscribe page is easy. Apart from creating a personalized header, footer, confirmation messages, etc., (if you choose to use something different than what comes with the standard phplist installation) you can only select what you have already created.

Attributes and lists.
Creating proper attributes and attribute values, as well as determining how you will use your lists is the real challenge. You can easily modify your subscribe page as time goes by, but modifying attributes and lists can be extremely complex and disruptive.

List of templates

In phpList a template is re-usable HTML code with all the standard layout and text elements of your message. For a newsletter template this would typically consist of the title heading, a logo, at the top part, and the preferences and unsubscription links at the bottom part. A template does not include the contents of the message, as this would change for each edition of the message. It should however include the 'placeholder' [CONTENT] which is used to insert the contents of the message later on.

User tracking can be used to see whether a HTML message has been opened by the recipient. To enable user tracking, you only need to add the placeholder [USERTRACK] at the bottom of the message template. This will insert a link to an invisible image in your message. When the user opens the message, the image is downloaded from your phplist system, which is then able to register who has opened the message. Note: User tracking has some limitations, as it's effectiveness depends on the recipients being on line when viewing the message. Also keep in mind that the configuration of the recipient's email client or webmail application may prevent images from being loaded when viewing messages. User tracking can only be used with HTML messages.

Process queue summary

Clicking on 'process queue' will send all queued messages, provided they are not under embargo, i.e., scheduled to be sent later on. Once you have clicked on process queue, the sending process cannot be canceled. If you do not process the message queue, messages will remain in the queue. The idea of a queue is that you can prepare messages for sending, and then have them actually sent by a scheduler or cron job.

When processing of the queue has started you should leave the browser window open till the result is displayed. Depending on the load of messages to be processed, this can take from a few minutes up to an hour or more.
Note: phplist does not send any message to people who have not confirmed their subscription.

A confirmation report will be sent to the email address(es) entered on the configuration page for "Who gets the reports". In addition, you can also be alerted by email when the message sending starts and ends, by entering one or more email addresses on the "Misc" tab of the "Send a message" page.
